The Ministry of Labor has warned Thai workers planning to travel to Israel or Lebanon, urging them to delay their plans due to escalating regional tensions. The warning follows the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran on July 31, which has heightened concerns over increased violence. The alert, signed by Department of Employment Director-General Somchai Morakotsriwan, was sent to all provincial governors, advising them to inform workers of the situation.

The security assessment, conducted by the Thai embassy in Tel Aviv in coordination with the Office of Labor Affairs in Tehran, indicates that the situation in Israel and Lebanon remains volatile. The warning has been in effect since Thursday and will continue until further notice. Caretaker Labor Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has confirmed that the ministry monitors the situation closely and has asked all Thai workers to postpone their travel plans.

Despite the concerns in Israel and Lebanon, the Ministry of Labor has continued its overseas employment programs. This year, the ministry aims to send 100,000 Thai workers abroad, with 77,918 already having traveled under the program. The ministry also signed a two-year memorandum of understanding with South Korea to enhance labor cooperation, which includes reduced waiting times between contracts and additional benefits for workers affected by natural disasters.

Under the agreement, 8,688 Thai workers have traveled to South Korea this year, an increase of 3,888 compared to last year. (NNT)
