Lampao Dam starts supplying water to farmers

KALASIN, 1 July 2015 – Lampao Dam has begun supplying cultivation water to farmers to relieve the drought situation, while urging the public to use water conservatively.

The staff of the Lampao Dam in Kalasin Province has confirmed that authorities had opened the dam gate to supply water to 127,520 rais of farmland areas in Kalasin, after Lampao Dam’s irrigation committee agreed to increase water supply for farms during the rainy season from 1 July 2015 onwards.

The farmland receiving the water supply from Lampao Dam are divided into 125,613 rais of in-season rice fields, 675 rais of fish farms, 1,158 rais of shrimp farms, and 74 rais of vegetable farms and dry crops.

The Director of Lampao Water Supply and Maintenance Project Piyapanya Phukwanmueang said that the current reserve water volume in Lampao dam is at 482 million cubic meters, or at 24.35 percent of the entire capacity. The usable amount of water is at 382 million cubic meters. Lampao dam is capable of supplying water continuously for 65 days at the rate of 4 million cubic meters per day.

He has also said that farmers and the general public in the area are urged to use water conservatively and share the water supply.
