LAMPHUN, 24 June 2015 – The northern province of Lamphun has established a new drug rehabilitation center, in compliance with the government’s drug eradication policy.
Lamphun Governor Narong Onsa-ard reported that from May – June this year, officials had arrested 46 people in drug-related offences, 17 of whom were apprehended for drug possession, and 12 for taking drugs. He said the majority of the offenders are in the districts of Muang Lamphun, Mae Tha, Li and Pa Sang.
According to the provincial administration’s record, out of the 98 drug addicts undertaking a recent rehabilitation program, 72 successfully quit their addiction, 7 experienced relapse, 4 unaccounted for, and one arrested for the drug related crime.
The province plans to recruit 100 drug addicts into a new rehabilitation program next month, hoping to purify their body and mind and eventually reintegrate them back into the society.
