BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has announced enhanced safety measures for the upcoming Loy Krathong Festival, scheduled for Friday, November 15.

A large turnout of locals and tourists is expected at popular locations along the Chao Phraya River, including Phra Phutthayotfa Bridge Pier, Si Phraya Pier, Asiatique Pier, and ICONSIAM Pier. Relevant agencies have been mobilized to ensure a safe and orderly celebration.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikan Wanthanachun provided details on the coordinated safety efforts, noting that the Marine Department has issued three key directives to regulate vessel operations on the Chao Phraya River during the festival.

The first directive, introduced recently, designates the river as a controlled navigation area. The second directive outlines specific safety measures for Loy Krathong events, and the third advises vessels to exercise extra caution on the festival night.

The Marine Department has also formed a task force to inspect passenger vessel safety and enforce strict compliance with established protocols. To ensure a smooth festival experience, the public and tourists are encouraged to follow guidance from pier officials. For any water safety concerns, the Marine Department’s 24-hour hotline is available at 1199. (NNT)
