SÃO PAULO, Brazil – A British Airways passenger plane was struck by lightning while parked at the international airport in Guarulhos, São Paulo, Brazil on January 26. The aircraft sustained minor damage but was able to proceed to its destination after undergoing safety checks and repairs.
Footage captured by a witness shows lightning striking the tail of the plane as it was parked at the gate during light rain. The lightning persisted for approximately 7-8 seconds, hitting the aircraft multiple times. Despite the proximity of airport staff to the plane, no injuries were reported.
The aircraft, which was scheduled to fly to London, was immediately removed from service for a safety inspection. Repairs were carried out on the tail section and other minor affected areas. After completing the necessary checks, the plane resumed its journey, though it departed nearly 6 hours behind schedule.

In this case, no significant damage or injuries were reported, demonstrating the effectiveness of these safety measures.
