China proposes four-step crackdown on call center scams in Thailand.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Liu Zhongyi, Assistant Minister of Public Security of China, arrived at Thailand’s Ministry of Defense to propose four measures to tackle call center scam operations. He was warmly received by Chinese Ambassador Han Zhiqiang, while maintaining a smiling demeanor and declining to answer media questions.

Liu is set to discuss anti-fraud collaboration with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Phumtham Wechayachai. The proposed measures include:

  1. Strengthening a trilateral mechanism under sovereignty and local laws, with China supporting Thailand in hosting preparatory and official meetings.
  2. Cutting off essential resources such as internet signals and fuel, despite Myanmar’s request to lift such restrictions.
  3. Enhancing border controls to prevent criminals from fleeing or relocating.
  4. Facilitating the repatriation of Chinese nationals through a Proof of Concept (PoC) initiative involving Thailand, China, and Myanmar, with Chinese officers verifying information and Thailand assisting in secure transport from the border to the airport with military support.

These measures aim to strengthen cross-border efforts in dismantling call center scam operations. (TNA)
