SAMU PRAKAN, 07 Oct 2013 – Locals residing around the Suvarnabhumi Airport have showed their disapproval of the Airport of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT)’s decision to build additional runways, saying that the company should complete the compensation from the previous project first before proceeding with another project.
More than 2,000 residents signed petitions indicating their discontent with the construction of the airport’s 3rd and 4th runways. The constructions would be responsible by the United Analyst and Engineering Consultant Company Limited, the advising company of the AOT.
Recently the advising company has organized a forum to determine details of the environmental impact study on the building of the runway on the southern and western zones of the airport.
The locals claimed that there are still more than 10,000 households that have yet to receive the compensation from the construction of the 1st and 2nd runway, demanding for the completion of the handing out of the previous compensation first before the company embarks on another project as resolved by cabinet on November 21st 2006.
The locals threaten to escalate their gathering if their demands have not been met.
