BANGKOK, Thailand – The Loy Krathong Festival 2024 in Bangkok promises an exciting blend of tradition and innovation, with over 140 locations across the city celebrating this cultural event. The festival features three main types of celebrations: traditional Krathong-making with natural materials, digital Krathong designs, and online activities. The event encourages environmental sustainability, focusing on reducing foam and non-natural materials, and aims to promote a cleaner, greener way to celebrate the festival.

In a collaborative effort, government agencies and private organizations are joining forces to revive the cultural heritage while embracing modern technology. A highlight of this year’s celebration includes the introduction of digital Krathong experiences, such as projection mapping displays at key landmarks like the Pathumwan Skywalk and the AEON Digital Loy Krathong event at City Hall. Participants can also create their own digital Krathongs for an eco-friendly, online floating experience.

The festival will take place from November 13-16, with notable events at key locations such as Klong Ong Ang, Klong Prem Prachakorn, and the Bangkok River Festival. Visitors are urged to avoid using bread-based Krathongs, which cause pollution and harm to aquatic life. The city also promotes “5 Safety and Eco Principles” to ensure a safe and environmentally-conscious celebration, including a ban on firecrackers and floating lanterns.

With this year’s emphasis on digital engagement, participants can enjoy fun activities like the Greener Bangkok Krathong Collection game. The festival promises a memorable experience, blending the charm of Thai traditions with innovative, sustainable practices.
