PHAYAO, 5 November 2014 – Light rain has chased away tourists on the first night of the Loy Krathong festival in the northern province of Phayao.
Fewer people than expected came to float their floral tributes at the venue on the rim of Kwan Phayao lake. Vendors who brought a large number of krathongs to sell to visitors said they were naturally disappointed with the rainy interruption.
The province began its three day festival earlier on Wednesday evening with many activities such as on-stage performances, a beauty pageant and a sky lantern competition. Residents and vendors hope that on the last two nights, the event will be both lucrative and festive with no rain to spoil the special occasion.
