MAE HONG SON, Thailand – The Mae Hong Son Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has reported a series of earthquakes in Pai district, recorded by the Seismological Bureau of Thailand between January 19 and January 20. The first quake, with a magnitude of 2.8 and a depth of 4 km, struck Wiang Nuea subdistrict at 9:05 p.m. on January 19. Subsequent tremors ranged in magnitude from 1.8 to 3.4, with depths recorded as shallow as 1 km.
While residents in the area reported feeling the tremors, no damage or injuries have been reported so far. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local agencies to ensure public safety and assess any potential impacts.
The Pai District Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center has been instructed to inform local administrative organizations, village heads, and community leaders to update residents on the situation and share safety protocols for seismic events. Public awareness efforts are underway to manage concerns and maintain preparedness.
