Officials have reported that the overall situation in Tak’s Mae Sot district has remained calm, with no incidents of gunfire reported from the Myanmar side from Apr 21 through the morning of April 22. While the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 1 continues to operate normally on the Thai side, the Myanmar side has been temporarily closed.
The officials announced that the number of safe zones for displaced Myanmar nationals on the Thai side has been consolidated from seven to three to better manage and support those affected by the nearby conflicts.
The Thai military, including the Naresuan Force, is closely monitoring the border to preempt any threats that might compromise the safety of Thai citizens. The Ratchamanu Special Unit is also positioned along the border, fully equipped and ready to counteract any breaches of sovereignty, thereby ensuring the security of local lives and property.
Tak Governor Somchai Kitcharoenroongrote has underscored the proactive measures taken by all units involved to ensure the well-being of both the displaced individuals and the officials on duty. Health officials have been instructed to regularly carry out malaria screenings, maintain public utilities, and ensure food safety among the displaced populations and Thai residents.
Somchai stated that these measures form part of a comprehensive humanitarian effort to provide necessary assistance to displaced Myanmar nationals, affirming their receipt of support in accordance with international humanitarian standards. (NNT)
