KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia has launched the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) on Thursday, aiming to oversee and set policies for the country’s rapidly growing AI sector, December 13. The initiative seeks to position Malaysia as a regional AI hub.
Gobind Singh Deo, Malaysia’s Minister of Digital Economy, highlighted that the office will address local and global challenges while promoting sustainable development, innovation, and cross-sector collaboration.
It will focus on integrating AI into government, industry, and society frameworks. The office also aims to lead AI research, applications, and commercialization to boost the digital economy and improve public services.
Malaysia has become a leading investment destination for high-tech industries, drawing investments in data centers, cloud services, and AI projects. The country’s digital and communication sector saw investments of 71.1 billion ringgit (about 541 billion Baht) in the first nine months of 2024.
