Man arrested in connection with major gambling den in bangkok

RATCHABURI, 24 June 2014,  – Officials have arrested the owner of a well-known resort in Ratchaburi for his involvement in ‘Number One,’ a gambling den in Bangkok raided by police last week. 

Officials yesterday questioned Mr. Akkachai Ployhin, the owner of Baan Suansomthip Resort and Spa in Ratchaburi, over his alleged involvement with the ‘Number One,’gambling casino in Bangkok, which was raided by police last week.

According to Secretary General of the Office of Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) Pol. Gen. Pongsapat Pongcharoen, t Mr. Akkachai was known for his name-dropping habit, claiming to know local influential figures when carrying out his business deals.

Initially, Akkachai denied having anything to do with the ‘Number One’ gambling den, but admitted that he had lent 4.7 million baht to Mr. Wisit Satjapotnukul, the owner of Number One Driving Range Company Limited, to set up and operate the casino.

Akkachai will be handed over to the military. He will be charged with violation of the National Council for Peace and Order’s order on gambling prohibition.

In addition, the list of more than 100 gambling dens in Bangkok and more than 1,000 in the rural provinces has been submitted to Acting Commissioner General Police General Watcharapol Prasanratchakij for further investigation.
