Many parts of Phuket at risk of landslides

BANGKOK, 18 September 2015 – Many areas in Phuket province have been submerged due to bad drainage after heavy rain fell on Thursday. A warning has been issued for landslide-prone areas.

Local administrative organizations in Phuket is urgently dredging drainage canals and removing solid waste from drainage pipes. The provincial disaster prevention and mitigation department has sent a letter to local administrative organizations to prepare for possible landslides, flooding, flash floods and storms.

At the Ratsada pier, large passenger boats operate as usual but those shorter than 10 meters will be strictly prohibited to operate if the winds and waves are strong.
