BANGKOK, 15 February 2013  Besides Bangkok, many provinces yesterday held mass marriage-registration activities to mark this year’s Valentine’s Day.

In Nakhon Ratchasima Province, 71 couples had their marriages registered on Valentine’s day. The oldest couple among them were two ninety-year old residents of Chokchai District. Although unmarried, the couple had been together for several decades and decided to partake in this year’s event to demonstrate their affection for each another, and to finally get married.

In Trang province, 5 couples took part in this years’ Valentine’s underwater wedding ceremony. The couples dived in the vicinity of Kradan island in Kantang district. The remaining 26 couples who also attended the event had their marriages registered on board a ferry, then swam to nearby Morakot Cave, before going on further sightseeing at sea.

Meanwhile, in the province of Nan, the Deputy governor handed marriage certificates to 32 couples from the Malabri or “Tong Lueang” tribe in order for the couples to be legally married and eligible for state services.
