BANGKOK,(NNT) – The total number of unemployed workers in Thailand grew in March, of the which the largest minority were university graduates.
The National Statistics Office (NSO) revealed that the March unemployment rate was 1.3% or 496,000. This marks an increase from the same period last year by 99,000 and an increase from the previous month by 66,000.
The office offered no specific reason for the rise in unemployment, but noted that the largest minority of out-of-work employees and job seekers were university graduates at 169,000 or 2.1% of all university graduates. The figure marks an increase from last year by 56,000.
The next education level with the greatest unemployment was Grade 12 graduates at 127,000, followed by Grade 9 graduates at 88,000, Grade 6 graduates at 81,000, and those with no education at 30,000.
The NSO also revealed that almost half of those unemployed with prior job experience came from the trade and services sectors, followed by manufacturing and agriculture.
