Hat Noppharat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi in Krabi Province has announced the seasonal closure of Maya Bay, Loh Sama Bay, and Lor Kor Bay from 1 August to 30 September 2024. This annual closure is for the safety of tourists during the rainy season and to allow nature to rehabilitate itself.
Maya Bay is the home of numerous species of marine animals, including blacktip reef sharks. According to the survey of the Marine National Park Operation Center 3 Trang, a total of 92 blacktip reef sharks were found in the area in June 2024. To preserve these sharks and other wildlife, including the plant life, it is necessary to give them a “holiday,” as well.
