The famous Maya Bay and Loh Samah Bay on Phi Phi islands have announced closure for two months to allow nature to rehabilitate. Natural park officials are warning tourists to be vigilant of rough seas during this rainy period.

The closure is in effect from 1 August to 30 September. Officials said it would allow for ecological restoration as well as prevent unwanted incidents due to dangerous weather conditions including heavy rainfall and rough seas.



Tourists are no longer allowed to enter the area during the said period, and boats are asked to take cautionary measures.

National park officials have placed red flags at piers and marine attractions to signal warning, while tour operators are instructed to operate with caution in the coming days. (NNT)
