BANGKOK, 5 April 2013 The Metropolitan Police Bureau and the Bang Rak District Office have jointly laid down traffic plans and security measures for the upcoming Songkran water play on Silom Road to ensure that the event is safe and free of weapons and alcohol.
After a joint meeting with related agencies, Deputy Metropolitan Police Chief Pol Maj Gen Worasak Nopsitthiporn said that Silom Road from Sala Daeng to Naralom intersections will be closed to traffic, starting from 2pm-9pm, on April 13-15 for Songkran festivities.
A total of 200 traffic police and municipal officials, together with a squadron of anti-riot police, will be deployed along the entire road to ensure safety of participants.
All types of vehicles, including water trucks and trucks with high-volume stereos, will not be allowed in the designated water-splashing area. Revelers will be requested to refrain from using talcum powder during the water play and to enjoy the festival appropriately. Tight surveillance will be kept against illegal acts in the crowd, especially molestation.
