BANGKOK – Medical Services Department Director General Suphan Srithamma has warned cigarette smokers against dangers of smoking and urged them to quit on occasion of World No Tobacco Day on May 31.
He said the World Health Organization (WHO) set May 31 as World No Tobacco Day which focuses on promoting public places, workplaces, public transportations and homes as non-smoking areas and such campaign is helpful to those who intend to quit smoking.
Despite several years of encouraging smokers to break the smoking habit, it remains difficult, considering the rate of only 2-3% of habitual smokers who successfully quit smoking each year, he said.
