KANCHANABURI, 1 July 2015 – The public health office of Kanchanaburi province this morning organized a march raising awareness for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).
The march started at Sala Khun Phaen in Mueang District, joined by 700 volunteers, locals and public health officers.
The province health office said the event’s objective is to provide information about the virus, along with the prevention measures to the public. It is important to learn that the virus is no threat to the general public. Only those traveling to or returning from the infected countries are at risk of being infected with the virus.
Residents are urged to keep their distance from people who have respiratory related illnesses, while maintaining good hygiene. They are asked to visit their local clinic as soon as they exhibit symptoms of high fever, coughing, runny nose and sore throat.
Currently, countries with high risks of MERS include Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Iran and South Korea.
