NONTHABURI, 3 July 2015 – The Omani patient, the country’s first confirmed case of MERS-CoV, has made a full recovery and will be discharged from the hospital today.

Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute has allowed the patient and his three relatives go home, after lab tests confirmed his full recovery. Doctors also revealed the man’s heart problem had improved. They declared the patient is self sufficient and can now walk short distances.

Representatives from the Embassy of Oman will be visiting the institute to accompany the man and his relatives for departure back to their home country late this evening. So far, the number of confirmed MERS-CoV cases in the country remains at one.

Meanwhile, Advisor to the Disease-Control Department Professor Emeritus Dr. Prasert Thongcharoen said the country must maintain strong MERS-CoV prevention and control measures, despite the patient’s recovery.
