BANGKOK, 11 October 2015 – Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra urges to the public to monitor the weather situation as heavy rains are expected, especially on Monday and Tuesday.

The Thai Meteorological Department has recently predicted incoming heavy rainfalls, with an average precipitation of 60-70 mm. Since the beginning of October, accumulated rainfall has reached 220 millimeters, above the mean recorded in October 2014.

It is expected that throughout October accumulated rainfall could reach 280-300 mm.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has been preparing to cope with flooding issues by dredging canals, opening waterways and clearing the drainage system. Currently operational completion has reached 98 percent. As an additional precaution, the BMA has also decreased the water level of Saen Saeb Canal by 20 cm.
