BANGKOK – The Metropolitan Police Bureau has unveiled its project to give back unclaimed or stolen cars to the public as a New Year gift for 2016.
According to Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathaworn, cars to be given back include vehicles that were seized, unclaimed, stolen or unregistered within the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Police, which includes 88 police stations across the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
Authorities will give out a total of 905 vehicles, consisting of 689 cars previously owned by individuals and 208 under car loans.
Pol Lt Gen Sanit affirmed that the cars were not cars that were seized from drunk drivers during the New Year while adding that many of those receiving the cars have yet to fully pay off their car loans.
Those who filed stolen vehicle reports can bring their vehicle registration and identification card to claim their cars at the Royal Thai Police Sports Club between January 5 and 9 and will then be able to pick up their vehicles at the designated police station.
Pol Lt Gen Sanit also revealed that the Motorcycle Hire-Purchase Association gave him a thank you present for the Metropolitan Police for its work in reclaiming stolen vehicles.
