Bangkok – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has disclosed that a large number of Thai overseas absentee voters flocked to cast their votes ahead of the general election, scheduled to take place on March 24th, 2019.
The Spokeswoman for the MFA, Busadee Santipitaks, said the overall absentee voting in foreign countries went smoothly, and there was a high voter turnout on March 9th and 10th.
Busadee said she had been informed of inconveniences faced by some absentee voters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. However, the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lampur had continued to accept ballots until all registered voters had exercised their right to vote and had also reopened to accept ballots again on March 10th until all registered voters exercised their suffrage.
As for the postal voting, most Thai embassies and consulates general have distributed ballot papers to registered eligible voters, and they will be returned by post to the Thai embassies and consulate generals by March 16th. The embassies and consulates general will then send the ballots to the MFA before they will be delivered to the Election Commission (EC).
