BANGKOK, 16 June 2015 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has said the Thai government is doing its best to assist 5 Thai students detained in Pakistan for allegedly trying to bring a firearm onto the plane.

According to the MFA Permanent Secretary, Norachit Singhaseni, the Thai embassy in the Pakistani capital city of Islamabad has already been in touch with the Thai students and the Pakistani authorities.

Mr. Norachit said the MFA will continue to follow the legal procedure in Pakistan and provide whatever assistance they can for the Thai students. He added that carrying a weapon onto the airplane is illegal, with or without ill intent, in Pakistan.

If they are to be tried in the court of law, the MFA will retain a lawyer for them, too. The MFA can only assure that they are well-treated as stated by the law, while they remain under the Pakistani authority.
