BANGKOK, Thailand – Jae Fai, the renowned Thai street food vendor and owner of iconic Michelin-starred Thai street food restaurant has announced plans to retire next year, Oct 29.

The 81-year-old Supinya Junsuta, known as Jae Fai is known for her iconic crab omelet and her unwavering commitment to quality. Her restaurant has held a one-Michelin-star rating since 2018.

Recently, a YouTube interview with Jae Fai was released by Kom Chad Luek media outlet where Jae Fai revealed that she has decided to stop because it has become too difficult. The preparation of ingredients requires a high level of detail, and she cannot trust her staff to do it. Every morning at 7 am, she personally inspects the ingredients and rejects anything that doesn’t meet her standards.

With the increasing demand for food products, suppliers are becoming more selective and prices are rising, making it even more challenging.

Jae Fai’s small, unassuming restaurant near Bangkok’s Phra Nakorn has become a pilgrimage site for food lovers from around the world. Celebrities such as Russell Crowe, Jack Ma, Tim Cook, and BLACKPINK’s Lisa have all dined at her establishment.

Despite her retirement, Jae Fai expressed her willingness to share her recipes and cooking techniques with those who are interested in carrying on her culinary legacy. “I’m happy to teach anyone who wants to learn,” she said. (TNA)
