Microsoft Thailand is advancing the country’s transformation into a major artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Asia, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Thai government to establish an AI Center of Excellence and a cloud data center in the country.
The initiative is part of Thailand’s strategy to become a digital-first, AI-driven nation, as announced at the APEC Leaders’ Meeting 2023.
Key elements of the plan include developing local cloud capabilities, focusing on renewable energy for data centers, and enhancing public sector AI projects through the AI center. Microsoft is also discussing tax incentives with the government and advocating for changes in state procurement rules to facilitate long-term cloud services.
Microsoft’s commitment extends to equipping millions of Thais with future-ready skills and implementing e-government projects in collaboration with various government units. The company’s recent investments in Thailand have been the launch of Copilot for Microsoft 365 and the manufacturing of Surface laptops. (NNT)
