BANGKOK, 15 July 2014 – Registration of migrant workers went smoothly at the “One Stop Service” center which opens in Din Daeng area today, with a lot of alien workers coming to register.
The Labor Department in cooperation with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, has agreed to set up six such centers across the capital to resolve the illegal migrant worker problem at the order of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). The problem has long plagued the country and become source of the bad reputation on human trafficking.
Foreign workers from Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia have been ordered to register at the centers which will open until August 14. The centers are manned with interpreters in five languages to help facilitate the registration process.
General Sirichai Ditthakul, the Army Chief-of-Staff, and his entourage traveled down to the Thai-Japanese Bangkok Youth Center in Din Daeng this afternoon to observe the progress of the registration.
The Chief-of-Staff said that these one-stop service centers would get rid of bureaucratic red tape and ensure that alien workers would be regulated finally. He commented that both the employers and workers have provided positive feedbacks to the measure.
