Migrant workers’ nationality verification deadline extended until June 30, 2018

Bangkok – The government has reiterated the legal requirement for migrant workers to verify their nationality and employers and workers are strongly advised to understand and follow the rules.

Government Spokesman Lt. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd previously disclosed that the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) had implemented a temporary measure to solve the problems of migrant worker management by allowing migrant workers to stay and work in the country until December 31, 2017.

The government is now aware of the need to extend the verification period for 900,000 migrant workers and it has approved a six-month extension for the nationality verification to June 30, 2018, in accordance with the cabinet’s resolution on December 19.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha stressed that the government has placed importance on the effective management of migrant workers which will lead to a systematic and sustainable solution to the problems.
