Min of Defense hopeful US will remove Thailand from human trafficking watch list

BANGKOK, 25 June 2015 – Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan said he is hoping the United States will consider upgrading Thailand on its human trafficking watch list. General Prawit said Thailand has taken serious action against every aspect of human trafficking. He added that it will depend on U.S. deliberation today whether to remove Thailand from Tier 3 or not.

The Defense Minister assured that if Thailand remains in Tier 3, the government will not be deterred and will continue to find ways to eradicate human trafficking in the country. Regarding the a recent internal investigation of the police department, General Prawit said it will be conducted in a transparent manner to find out if any officers have been involved in the trafficking of Rohingya refugees.
