BANGKOK, 24 September 2014 A charity walk-and-run marathon will be held next Sunday, October 5, in honor of the late Princess Mother on the occasion of her 114th birthday on October 21, 2014.
Announcing the event at a press conference held at the Department of Social Development and Welfare on Krung Kasem Road was Privy Councilor Admiral Jumphol Patjusanont. Entitled the Walk-and-Run Marathon for Older Persons’ Health 2014, the event is jointly organized by the Foundation for the Promotion of Older Persons of Thailand and the Association of Older Persons’ Councils of Thailand.
The walkathon will be taking place at Suan Luang Ro Kao Public Park in Bangkok, with a view to promoting exercises among elderly people and their families.
It is also organized in conjunction with the International Day of Older Persons on October 1st.
Proceeds from the event will be used to support physical exercises and promote the quality of life of older persons. The walkathon on October 5 will cover a distance of 2.5 kms for the walk-and-run activity and 10 kms for the mini marathon .
Winners of the mini marathon , aged 60 years up, both male and female, will be awarded with HM the King’s trophies. Winners in other categories will be given plaques of honor while every participant who reaches the finish line will be given a commemorative coin.
