CHIANG MAI – The Ministry of Education has led the crackdown on truancy in Chiang Mai province, culminating in the arrest of an internet cafe owner on charges of inciting inappropriate behavior among youths.
Inspector-General of the Ministry of Education Prasert Boonruang led a team of student inspectors, teachers, and officials from the Ministry of Culture to examine several venues known to be popular among students. These venues mostly consist of public parks and internet cafes.
They discovered a large number of truants at internet cafes near the college and filed them under a disciplinary action report, before informing their parents about the misconduct.
The inspection team indicated that these students also exhibited aggressive behavior and later arrested one of the cafe owners for inciting inappropriate behavior among youths. The owner reportedly attempted to sidestep a previous cease and desist order by renaming the internet cafe.
