BANGKOK, 02 OCT 2013 – The Ministry of Industry has open a 24-hour flood monitoring center aimed at assisting flood victims.

Minister of industry Mr. Prasert Bunchaisuk  yesterday expressed his concerns over the flood situation. According to him, a 24-hour flood center has been set up in order to help flood victims. The center will closely monitor flood situations, and coordinate with disaster response teams to help provide immediate assistance.

Since the flooding disaster in 2011, which resulted in billions of baht worth of damage, particularly to industrial estates, risks for businesses and investors have increased. As communities become more aware of the fact, integral measures have been adopted and communities are more willing to cooperate in implementing protection schemes.

High-ranking officials of the ministry of industry have visited the major industrial estates severely affected by the 2011 flooding, to inspect and follow up on raising the standards of their flood management schemes as well as evaluating damage and restoration costs. The sites included: the Rojana Industrial Park, Bangpa-In Industrial Estate, Bangkadi Industrial Park, Nava Nakorn Industrial Zone and Hi-Tech Industrial Estate.

The ministry is confident that it is still able to handle the flood situation, but will have to be on alert at all times. It aims to closely follow changes and be ready to respond immediately, should situations worsen, to protect industries and communities to build confidence among investors.
