AYUTTHAYA, July 2015 – A canal-side road in Ayutthaya suffered another major crack as the drought crisis in the central province has continually worsened.

The Lad Bua Luang-Sam Muang road which runs alongside Praya Bunlue canal developed an 80-meter-long and 3-meter-wide crack. Both lanes of the road collapsed, rendering the road inaccessible to vehicles.

More and more collapses have been reported on the road since July 5, which severely impacted the traffic in the area. Relevant agencies have been carrying out temporary repair work to open up traffic again.

Some roads in Ayutthaya, Saraburi and other provinces have sealed off this month after they developed large cracks, a result of fast-receding water which caused the soil underneath the roads to subside.
