BANGKOK, 9 January 2013  Another cold front from China is set to prevail over Thailand’s Northeast on Thursday, bringing the temperature down further.

The high pressure cell, coupled with a westerly monsoon trough, is set to lower the average temperature in the North, Northeast, Central Plains and East by 2-4 degrees Celsius during this period.

In Chiang Rai, the provincial authority has requested a financial aid of over 20 million baht to provide relief for disaster-struck villagers as the initial budget of 1 million baht proved insufficient in light of the increasingly low temperature in the area and the growing need for assistance. Isolated frost has also formed in mountainous areas.

In the South, a moderate northeastern monsoon, which covers most of the South and the Gulf of Thailand, is expected to bring more scattered thundershowers to the area.
