BANGKOK, 16 June 2015 – The Ministry of Transport has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives on promoting local farm produce in the meals offered on flights by THAI Airways.
Both Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Pitipong Puengboon Na Ayutthaya and Transport Minister Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong presided over the MOU signing ceremony.
The agreement was signed by the permanent secretaries of both ministries. The MOU is aimed at promoting the quality of fresh food produced and processed by Thai farmers, and featured in the meals served to passengers on THAI Airways flights.
The airline will also serve as a marketing channel for farm products, the quality of which has been verified by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. It is expected to generate interest among foreign tourists and eventually encourage them to travel locally to visit fruit and vegetable orchards.
The move is said to be in line with the government’s agricultural tourism policy that is aimed at raising the living standard of the country’s farmers.
