SONGKHLA, 23 September 2013 The Ministry of Public Health is going ahead with its campaign to make at least one school or child development center in every district completely safe from food diseases.
Head of the Songkhla Provincial Public Health Office, Dr. Sirichai Leewannaphasai, stated that the campaign is a part of the Public Health Ministry’s policy to ensure food safety among school students and small children.
Dr. Sirichai cited an evaluation of the project in Songkhla as showing that out of the 66 targeted schools in the province, only 20 maintain the food safety standard. They include 14 elementary schools, 2 high schools, and 4 pre-schools.
Most of the qualified institutions are in Sadao, Ranoat and Sathing Phra districts of the province.
The head of the Songkhla Public Health Office however vowed to step up the food safety campaign and will establish at least one school or child development center in each district as pilot or model center by the end of 2013.
