BANGKOK, 29 March 2014  The Election Commission (EC) is sending an official letter to Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, advising him to cease his work, after the Central Court of Appeals accepted the EC’s petition for a re-election for the position of Bangkok governor.

The EC secretary-general Phuchong Nuttrawong said the court accepted the petition on Thursday. According to Mr. Phuchong, the letter is expected to reach the Bangkok Governor on Monday.

The Election Commission earlier resolved to yellow-card M.R. Sukhumbhand for actions taken by members of the Democrat Party that may have afforded him unfair advantage over others who also ran in the gubernatorial election. Yellow-carded individuals are however allowed to run in re-elections.

The court has reportedly scheduled Wednesday April 23rd as the hearing date for witnesses’ testimonies.
