The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRT) today conducted a test service of its “Purple Line” linking Bangkok and Nonthaburi with members of the Transport Commission of the National Legislative Assembly as passengers.
The commission members were given the test run of the service from its maintenance centre at Klong Bang Phai in Nonthaburi to Tao Poon station in Bangkok after the commission visited the MRT to follow up progress of the Purple Line service.
The Purple Line will be open to public on a trial service from Bang Yai to Tao Poon next month before official service to commence on August 6.
Before riding the free service during the two month test, the MRT requires pre registration of people to receive tickets at three stations, Klong Phai, Siyaek Nonthaburi and Tao Poon.
Each passenger will be given three tickets for three day rides the following week. Each ticket is for two passengers travelling together.
The MRT will give away 5,000 free tickets a week for 15,000 passengers.
The MRT said the test run schedules are subject to changes every week, but passengers will be notified in advance weekly.
It added that official service will be on August 6 with train fare ranging from 16-40 baht on the 23-kilometre long route covering 16 stations.
Here are the schedules for registration for free tickets.
