BANGKOK, 23 APRIL 2015 – The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) has declared anti-human trafficking its top priority.
During the Press Conference on the Six Month Progress Report of the Ministry, Police General Adul Sangsingkeo, the Social Development and Human Security Minister, stated that the Ministry has placed the human trafficking issue at the top of the list of its various reform policies.
He says that the Ministry has been following the human-trafficking cases, as well as illegal migration which could be related to the trafficking issue. It has also been providing assistance and other remedies to the plight of victims.
After the Ministry had helped the crew of Thai fishing vessels stranded on Ambon Island of the Republic of Indonesia come back to Thailand, it still continues to help the remaining victims, as well as support the multi-disciplinary team that was set up to operate from March 27 onward to identify the victims.
The Minister also chairs the Sub-Committee on Women’s Issues, under a Policy Consultation Committee on Human Trafficking chaired by the Prime Minister, to tackle the issue of trafficking in women.
A Center for the Resolution of Trafficking in Women and Children was founded by the Ministry to gather data, and to follow and monitor the issue in central and regional areas.
Moreover, an MoU on anti-human trafficking between Thailand and the United Arab Emirates is soon to be signed, while MoUs with both Myanmar and Lao PDR on the same issue are in the review process.
