BANGKOK, 19th June 2013 Acting governor of the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) Mr. Samai Anuwatkasaem yesterday presided over the opening of the 2nd Water Conserving “Water Ranger” event, held to carry on last year’s efforts in raising awareness of water conservation and the proper use of water among youths.
Students from 18 schools attended the opening event, during which Mr. Samai said that the MWA has been successful in creating campaigning activities for youths, focusing in Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakarn. The activities are aimed at helping nurture learning about water resources and to foster consciousness on using water in a sustainable manner.
The “Water Ranger” event has been held since 2011. This year the WMA has assigned officials to organize activities under the concept: ” Water resource may be exhausted, use every drop consciously”; aimed at propagating water conservation ideas to 1,800 students from 18 different schools. Scholarships worth 5,000 baht will also be given to encourage the water ranger activities.
Moreover, The MWA is giving a chance to students 15 years of age and under to participate in a photography competition depicting conscious use of water, and in a water-conservation slogan writing contest. The photos and slogans should be sent through www.facebook/waterranger no later than August 26th, 2013. The picture or slogan with the most “LIKES” will each receive 3,000 baht. The names of winners will be announced on September 2, 2013.
