BANGKOK, 16 July 2015 – The National Legislative Assembly has scheduled a date for the National Anti-Corruption Commission and 248 former members of parliament who face an impeachment motion, to be present together for a further hearing of the case.

The NLA meeting on Wednesday deliberated an urgent agenda matter related to the impeachment of 248 former MPs for their alleged involvement in an illegal amendment of the previous Constitution.

The meeting started with an opening statement according to the report and the opinions presented by the NACC, and a statement to protest against the motion by the accused.

The NACC has alleged that all 248 former MPS deliberately abused their power when they signed an endorsement of the charter amendment, while 12 of the 248 accused who were responsible for the delivery of the statement, have insisted that they followed every provision of the Constitution.

After seven hours of deliberations on the case, NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai informed all members of the legislature to file their questions related to the motion until July 20, and ordered the setting up of a 7-member committee to work on the points to be raised at the next hearing, which is set for August 6.
