BANGKOK, 21 Mar 2014 The National Anti Corruption Commission (NACC) has allowed the legal team of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinwatra to make a copy of additional documentary evidence on the rice pledging scheme fraud case from the agency.
The move was unveiled by the NACC Secretary General Sansern Poljiak who stated that the remaining evidence is not crucial to the case and is already available to the defendant.
The premier is currently being scrutinized for abusing her power to unconstitutionally manipulate the law to affect the rice support program. Ms. Yingluck has until the end of this month to testify and defend herself against the charge. Her legal team is at the moment collecting all relating evidence regarding the case and already has obtained the 49 pages of documentary evidence from NACC.
However, the Premier’s lawyers deemed that the agency possesses more important evidence and has earlier this week requested for those items.
In reply, Mr. Sansern said the NACC has no intention of withholding the information but rather has deemed the evidence is redundant and generic, pointing out those papers simply contain facts on the government’s policies, speeches made by relevant officials, and various Q&A threads.
The NACC Secretary General stated the agency thus has approved the Prime Minister’s legal team to make a duplicate of the said evidence, adding an arrangement will be made for the team to do the task before March 31st.
