BANGKOK, 14 March 2014 The National Anti- Corruption Commission (NACC) has reiterated that if Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra fails to give her testimony after the 15-day extension, she will be indicted.
NACC deputy chief Witthaya Akompatak said that the premier has been given a 15-day leeway to present her defense either in person or via her legal team. If the defense is not prepared by that time, the final verdict will be delivered in April without her testimony.
If the NACC decides to indict her, Ms Yingluck will be forced to leave office.
Ms Yingluck’s lawyer Norawit Lalaeng said yesterday the premier’s legal team had only managed to copy documents relating to the investigation on Tuesday, leaving them with just two days to prepare the premier’s defence.
Ms Yingluck, who was the chairwoman of the National Rice Policy Committee, has been charged with dereliction of duty for failing to address allegations of corruption in the rice-pledging scheme. The NACC announced its decision to charge her with dereliction of duty on February 18
