NAKHON RATCHASIMA, 25 Oct 2013 Nakhon Ratchasima remain flooded on Thursday, with water still overflowing from the banks of the Mun River.

Almost 30,000 bags of rice in a warehouse in Chokchai district were damaged, after having been submerged under 2 meters high floodwater for almost a week. The value of the lost rice was estimated at 30 million baht. Dhipaya Insurance, the company insuring the rice in the warehouse, said it would cover the entire lot of rotten rice; which had been pledged under the government’s rice mortgage program. The remaining 90,000 bags in the warehouse, 60,000 of which would be exported soon, were undamaged.

Meanwhile, some homes in downtown Nakhon Ratchasima were flooded by water overflowing from Lam Takhong waterway that flows through the city. The inundation was 60-70 centimeters high at some spots.

At Phimai historical park, soldiers continued to reinforce the water barrier around the historic site and pump out the water in hopes of preventing artifacts of archaeological significance from flood.
