Nakhon Ratchasima, 18 September 2011 – Flooding in the northeast has shown no sign of abating as a new storm is expected to latch the Northeast soon.
In Nakhon Ratchasima, the amount of water at major dams, including Lam Takhong, and Lam Phra Phloeng, has reached the critical level, exceeding 80 percent of the dams’ capacity.
The 8th Royal Irrigation Office in Nakhon Ratchasima said it had to release the water onto rivers below the dams as a new system of monsoons was approaching, unavoidably worsening the situation at affected areas.
Water discharged from the dams will spare residential areas in Pak Thong Chai district but are likely to hit agricultural land there and Chok Chai district.
Several districts in Nakhon Ratchsima have been declared disaster zones. The new batch of monsoons is forecast during September 18-20.
