NAKHON RATCHASIMA – The deputy governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Province has called a meeting with different agencies today to discuss the plan to separate liquor shops from schools and student dorms.

The discussion was joined by officials from local administrative and security organizations as well as the Regional Excise Office. The zoning is one of the National Council for Peace and Order’s efforts to lessen alcohol consumption in youngsters, especially students.

The government stipulated that all provinces must finish their zoning before 30th November. Nakhon Ratchasima has more than 500 educational institutions. More than 30,000 operators have applied for alcohol sales licenses.

Deputy Governor Surapan Dissaman said directors of all educational institutions had been instructed to look for alcohol outlets in their localities to map out a proper zoning plan. Mr. Surapan confirmed that the zoning task would comply with the government’s policy without affecting existing licensed operators.
