BANGKOK, Sept 13 — Members of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) have given support to the government’ policy covering 11 areas, urging the new interim administration of Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha to be determined in suppressing corruption prevailing in Thailand.

Their support was given during the Friday session when Gen Prayuth delivered his government’s policy statement covering 11 areas to NLA members.

NLA member Wallop “Khru Yui” Tangkananurak urged the military-dominated cabinet to be sincere in suppressing corruption, starting with the administrative branch of  government agencies and state enterprises.

He said many complaints had been lodged against senior civil servants and cases are still pending with the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

Another NLA member Somchai Sawaengkarn said he supported the government’s policy but he felt that one year was not enough for the interim administration to solve problems that have existed in the country for a long time.

Mr Somchai said this government could lay out the foundation for a future government to continue solving problems if it was unable to rid the problem within a year.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-Ngam told NLA members that the government is determined to suppress corruption while it is prepared to amend law concerning procurement by state-run offices and reform  the bureaucratic system to that it could become more flexible and transparent.

Mr Wissanu said he is confident the government would be able to resolve the corruption problem after Gen Prayuth had said earlier that those found guilty would be dismissed and that lawsuits would be lodged against them.
