BANGKOK, 10 May 2015 – A vice president of the National Legislative Assembly has stressed that media and journalists must always remain neutral while performing their work, in the interests of the public.
The NLA’s First Vice President Surachai Liengboonlertchai said that one of his responsibilities as a member of the legislature is to oversee the public relations of the Parliament and the operations of the Parliament’s TV and radio stations.
Mr. Surachai stated that a policy that he has initiated focuses on efforts to make these media truly neutral in communicating with members of the public and to make them the best engines to educate the people about democracy.
He stressed that, without neutrality, the people will be easily misinformed and the country will be at a loss.
Mr. Surachai added that he hopes Parliament TV and radio programs will help the people gain an accurate understanding of democracy while encouraging them to be able to recognise useful and correct information as well as to be better informed about all state policies, and to follow up on how much such policies would actually meet their objectives.
